First 2 weeks as an Math Instructional Specialist

From a seven year math teacher to an instructional coach is something very foreign. From knowing math objectives from the top of your head to wondering who is Mr. Title One and why is he asking me to do so much. From being very “comfortable” in class to not having a moment to be comfortable. Like really, I have to plan my breaks, or ignore the radio, either or…My first two weeks how been fulled with so many missed meetings, crying students     (some teachers, as well ), observations galore , among other things.

  • Had a lunch date, not with Idris Elba, but with a 6th grader named Cameron, very interesting conversation about Pokemon Go
  • Mrs. Jackson bought watermelon for her students and I stole some
  • I did the “Running Man” down the hallway
  • I have been hug and high five “siked” at least 16 times, before I released it was a prank ( yes it took me 16 times)
  • Don’t seat next to Kelley in the administration meetings, she laughs @ everything and gets me in trouble
  • Title One is my new best friend
  • A student decided to play in the rain and got upset when denied entry in class
  • Perks of lunch duty, students always have hot chips and willing to share
  • I confiscated 5 cellphones
  • I have a secret “hiding” spot when I don’t want to be found
  • School breakfast and lunch, is actually not that bad, when running on zero, with no other options for lunch

I’ll keep you updated
